Soundcloud Traktor Pro 3
TRAKTOR PRO 3 sees a series of changes to our audio engine, designed with club- sized sound systems in mind. New Elastique 3 time-stretching, an improved master limiter, and industry-mixer modeling options mean that whatever your style, and whatever you do to your tracks, they’ll always be music to your ears. Algoriddim has been the first one to integrate with Spotify by releasing djay Pro which gives pro music-mixers instant access to more than 20 million songs (with a Spotify Premium subscription). But till now, Traktor still lack Spotify integration, even worse, it doesn’t support any online music streaming service.
It is available for Mac, Windows and iOS, and is currently a free download. It integrates with SoundCloud Go+ for access to many millions of tracks. SoundCloud is also free for 30 days via an in-app trial, after which it is a subscription service.
While the new app has obvious limitations at this time against Traktor Pro 3 (it’s only two deck, no Remix Decks or Stems decks, no metadata editing or Midi mapping, only works with Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk3 and Kontrol Z1), it also has features that Traktor Pro 3 doesn’t such as track recommendations, Retina support, and of course streaming (expect more streaming services in the future too).
It’s an intriguing angle from Native Instruments (see our thoughts in the box below), and at launch, it looks and feels like a solid first attempt – we’ve been playing with it here on the iPad as we craft this piece.

We’d say that the biggest omission at launch would be auto playlist mixing, something people who dabble with DJ apps and streaming certainly value – maybe that’s coming in a future. What is coming very soon is our review, so watch this space…

The news came hot on the heels of Serato announcing integration with SoundCloud and TIDAL, and means that users of all of these DJ software platforms will be able to tap into SoundCloud’s huge catalogue of music, accessing their playlists directly from inside their DJ software.
Other DJ software integrations announced include with DEX3, Mixvibes (presumably a resurrected version of its Cross platform – Cross 4?) and “Hercules” (so we’re guessing that means the DJUCED platform) – although there was no mention of Rekordbox in the press release, meaning users of Pioneer DJ’s software may not be getting this – not yet, at least.
Users will need a SoundCloud Go+ subscription, but in other news, SoundCloud has announced that soon that will also mean lossless audio – a boon for DJs chasing the best sound quality possible in their sets.
This is good news for DJs who use SoundCloud for music discovery. Many tracks on SoundCloud aren’t available for download, and having such a large library of music at your fingertips when DJing – much of which is unavailable elsewhere – should prove a lot of fun for many DJs.
We’ll be keeping you updated as to how it works in practice as soon as the first integrations drop: SoundCloud is saying “2019” for most, but we are hoping to test this on Serato rather sooner – we’ll keep you posted.
